Neligh Library Home
This blog serves as a journal starting in June of 2006 when I moved back to Nebraska with my three young children. Starting over with a new career in a new place can be overwhelming but I have focused my energy on the renovation of this beautiful building that will someday be a home for my family. The process is liberating and therapeutic. Since most of my friends and family are located around the world and are not here to watch, this blog will serve as a window to the journey.

The cement truck came today so now we can move forward with the bathroom and finish the sheetrock. I had to leave when the driver was backing the shoot into my recently completed window. Somehow I doubt a little paint, wood, or even brick was going to stop a large truck full of cement from going anywhere it wanted to. Fortunately it all worked out fine and only a little touch-up paint was needed. My three old will be disappointed however as his bedroom sandbox is gone....I guess he'll have to go outside and play in his usual sandbox.

Bedroom Update
The bedroom is starting to look so much better. We finished patching all the holes and surewalled with a finish coat. It looks so much like the original plaster. Dave is a master with all his tricks of the trade. After some sanding and window trim work I'll be ready to prime. The transformation has really started.
Plumbing
The plumbing is almost done. We're waiting on the concrete to be poured so we can finish installing the tub and shower then put up the last of the sheetrock. I'm tired of stepping and tripping over all the trenches we dug, though my 3 year old son thinks it's awfully cool that he has a sandbox in his bedroom. Little does he know it's about to be filled in.

Exterior Work
Thanks to the warmer weather, albeit a little wet, we've had the chance to work on some of the exterior. My dad did a great job on the lights and hand rails. The front looks dressed up again! I've been working on repairing and painting the windows. Not an easy job considering the height of some. I refuse to stand on the top layer of the scaffold so my brave dad is kind enough to take care of the soffit. It takes me about two days per lower window since they are caulked and painted shut and I'm restoring them to their original double hung capabilities. These keep me busy while Dave and crew work on the interior. I try to just stay out of their way!

Bathroom: Before & During
The downstairs bathroom is starting to take shape. So hard to believe what we started with. I often look back through the posts over the last 2 years and I think if I would've had any clue how much work this was, I'm not sure I would've taken this project on. It's been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears.
Basement
The past week has consisted of a lot of mudding and taping! This is the family room downstairs which is almost ready for priming. The second picture is of a bedroom that I think is at its worst right now, except for the ceiling we just put up. I can't wait to compare this picture with the final result!
