Neligh Library Home

This blog serves as a journal starting in June of 2006 when I moved back to Nebraska with my three young children. Starting over with a new career in a new place can be overwhelming but I have focused my energy on the renovation of this beautiful building that will someday be a home for my family. The process is liberating and therapeutic. Since most of my friends and family are located around the world and are not here to watch, this blog will serve as a window to the journey.

Refinishing Floors!

Wow, is that a lot like work! Dave and I worked all weekend to sand the floors over, and over, and over. One hundrend years of use, grime, and tar paper sure made it a job. The end result is fabulous though! I was ready for Monday so I could go back to work and rest my weary muscles. Special thanks to Teri Reicks (OK, Monty helps too) for finding a wonderful stain that looks great with the woodwork. I now spend the evenings sealing the floors, over and over and over. We should be all done by this weekend. I love walking around in socks sliding all over the new floor and so do the kids. I'm already imagining William driving his loader and tractor around the floor (YIKES!)

Final Coats of Paint

So hard to believe most of the upstairs is painted. I love my "Tansy Green" fireplace! We've also been busy with the electrician getting all the wires pulled. Dave and Joe have been working their tails off getting the spaces ready for whatever comes next. The removal of the plaster ceiling in the basement was a BIG mess as seen in the picture. But it now makes life a lot easier to finish the electrical and duct work. I also had a little help painting my closet!
