Neligh Library Home

This blog serves as a journal starting in June of 2006 when I moved back to Nebraska with my three young children. Starting over with a new career in a new place can be overwhelming but I have focused my energy on the renovation of this beautiful building that will someday be a home for my family. The process is liberating and therapeutic. Since most of my friends and family are located around the world and are not here to watch, this blog will serve as a window to the journey.

I Can See the Oak Floors!

Here is David using the tile scraper to get the nasty tiles and tar paper off the beautiful 100 year old oak floors! Unfortunately not all the tar paper will come off as they glued it to the wood. If anyone out there has any tips on how to get it off please leave a comment. We've tried many of the usual products with no luck. We may end up spending tons of money on sandpaper with a floor sander just sanding it off but it will be worth it and still cheaper than trying to lay new wood flooring. The second picture shows where the large stacks stood which must have still been there since they tiled around them. A preview of those beautiful floors (I keep telling myself it will all be worth it!)

More Scraping

I am getting tired of scraping but anything loose needs to come off. I'm down to the point where I can see a lot of the original colors and patterns. These are pics from the entryway and large room after days of scraping.
